Mini Soccer Numbers Climb!!

This Outdoor Season Saskatoon Youth Soccer Inc. has seen an increase in mini soccer team registrations in the Under-6 and Under-8 age groups!!  From 2009 we have had 7 more Under-6 teams and 11 more Under-8 teams!  This is close to an increase of 180 new kids playing outdoor soccer!  Also this past indoor season we saw an increase in these age groups with 4 more teams in each Under-6 and Under-8 age groups.  That’s close to 80 more players in the indoor season!  Saskatoon Youth Soccer hasn’t seen these types of increases at the mini level since 2005-06 when the new soccer centre, SaskTel Sports Centre, was first constructed.  This increase could be due to many factors ~ the economy could be looking a little better and parents are putting their kids into more activities; the FIFA World Cup is this summer and has been in all sorts of media; the Mens Accelerators Soccer League and University Huskie Soccer may have increased the soccer profile in Saskatoon; mini soccer fees haven’t increased for the last two consecutive years; youth soccer Zones are more involved at the grassroots level; the Mens Huskie players have been involved with mini jamborees with these two age groups in the indoor season for the past five years; and the introduction of the “Soccer Kids In the Park” free drop-in program aimed at 4 to 12 year olds during the months of July and August for the last two years.
