The Government of Saskatchewan recently provided the attached update on the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) that “no one should attend a mass gathering…everyone should model social distancing (i.e. no handshakes)…those over 65 are of higher risk”. We have also learned that there is a now a confirmed presumptive positive result of COVID-19 in Saskatoon. The Saskatchewan Soccer Association has also announced that all large events should be postponed. In light of this information and advisories, Saskatoon Youth Soccer Inc. has decided in the best interest and health of our soccer families to cancel our Xtratime Sports Soccer Locker Mini SISCO Tournament which was to take place this weekend March 13 - 15, 2020 at the SaskTel Sports Centre in Saskatoon. This tournament was the much anticipated wrap-up event to conclude the indoor season and was to have 179 games played over the weekend with 115 teams participating between the ages of 4 to 9 with an estimate of 1,300 athletes, 230 coaches, and a minimum of 2,600 spectators including grandparents. This event is the largest event our association puts on each winter and we were all very excited for another fun and exciting weekend of soccer. It is understandable that this news may result in disappointment and we wish to assure our soccer families that their health and safety was our utmost concern in arriving at this decision.
